Is an enduro a good touring bike?

  • well i want an newer enduro something like a suzuki dr200 or something like that to ride on the road and school for my first bike i dont want to go offroading tho..would like an enduro type bike be good for road driving only or is the engine not built for only road?

  • Answer:

A 200cc bike isn't going to tour anywhere. It will have trouble even reaching and maintaining safe highway speeds. My DRZ400SM is fairly comfortable going 75 on the highway for extended periods, but there isn't a ton of reserve power after that. To me, the DRZ400 is about as small in an enduro as you can go and still use it for real traveling.

If you will never ride off-road, then there is absolutely no reason to buy an enduro bike. Get yourself a Kawasaki GPz250 or a Suzuki TU250. Your rear end will be grateful that you did. Having said that, the idea that you need an over-1200cc land yacht to go touring is a very recent one. Strap a duffel bag to whatever you have and just go!

No, unless your touring Mexico.

An enduro is basically an off road bike equipped to be street legal. It's not a touring bike.

Kawasaki make a KLX250sf and Honda makes a CRF230m, both enduro style but road intended, sometimes called a "super moto" style. Engines are fine for the road. A larger version is the DRS400sm, but its quite tall compared to these other bike and a bit heavier, so not a recommended first bike.
