How to ride a dirt bike?

  • I'm buying a yamaha klx 110 w/ fmf pipe but i have no experience in riding how do you star it and do gears and clutch?

  • Answer:

you start it by kicking the kick starter on the right side of the motorcycle in neutral (half shift above 1st, anything else and the bike will go flying when it starts). You shift by squeezing the left lever on the handle bar and pushing down for 1st and then up for second and so on till top gear, downshift press down until your back at first. To put back in neutral half shift (lightly press up on the left shifter pedal) until you hear a click and let go of clutch and if it dosnt move you in neutral. hold down the red button on handlebar and it should turn off.

First you have to check over the bike to make sure it is safe to ride. This is a list of things you need to check. 1. Check to make sure all the levers and stuff are working (brakes, clutch, ect.) 2. Check the Oil millimetersel to make sure everything is all good. (you do not have to have a full tank to use the bike, i like to ride with a quarter full tank, it makes the bike light) 3. You may want to check the air filter and see if it needs cleaning, if it does, pour some kero into a bucket or something, then start washing it int he kero (this is done by squeezing it untill it is a nice clean color) 4. Check all the spokes to make sure they are all in properly, if any are lost tighten them, you really don't want to lose a wheel while riding. 5. Twist the throttle when the bike is off and then let it go, if it doesn't spring back into place then you are in trouble. --------------------------------------… Now lets go onto how to ride the bike. Well for starters make sure you have all the appropriate gear on. Before you go kick start the bike, make sure it is in neutral, this is done by flicking the gears down (while the bike is off) then once in the lowest gear (gear 1) click it up half half a gear (neutral is in-between 1st and 2nd), you will be able to tell if it is neutral by the way it will roll freely, so you can push it and the back wheel isn't locked. Okay, then you kick start the bike (after getting on it) you have to do this fast (the kicking process) it also helps to hold the throttle a couple of milimeters twisted (don't over twist it or you will rev the crap out of the bike). Now the bike is started, hold the clutch in (the lever on the handle bar on the left side) the click a gear down on the gear shift (down near your left foot) then rev a tiny bit (don't over rev it, most people make this mistake and end up flipping out) now push the bike forward whle sitting on it and slowly let go of the clutch the bike should start rolling by it's self and then lift your feet. To change a gear up, hold in the clutch, flick the gear shift up with your foot and let the clutch go, this process should take less than 3 seconds. To shift a gear down, hold in the clutch and click the gear shift down and let go of the clutch. Now remember the 2 brakes are located the lever above the throttle on the right side of the handle bar, and the other one is located on the right side next to your foot. Also note their is an Engine Stop button located on the left side of the handle bar, usually coloured red, if your throttle locks (which it shouldn't if you have checked it before starting the bike) then hiold this button down, note, that if you just tap it the engine wont stop, you must hold it down. To turn while riding, you have to lean into the corner, not too much or you will tip, or the back wheel will slide out and you'll end up getting laughed at on youtube, tha's if it is filmed and uploaded of course ;)
