Break problems on a yz125.

Yz125 top end power problems?

  • Alright, its a 1990 YZ125. I can get very good bottom end power out of the bike, and it seems that theres 2 powerband. Weird, i know. However, when I give the bike 3/4 throttle, it sounds like its maxed, but 3 seconds later powerband kicks in.. Sometimes it doesn't fully pull, and sometimes it does.. I was thinking one of these problems, but i was wondering if anybody would be able to help me out... -Air filter -Carb adjustments -Piston rings(Doubtful, but maybe) Thanks,

  • Answer:

Check the power valve (exhaust valve). From not being serviced - the valve gets clogged up with carbon and gets stuck in one position, or only partially moves. The governor which operates the valve can be defective, needing repair. Remove the exhaust pipe to see the valve. Remove the cover on the right side of the cylinder and operate the valve by hand.

Float height is very crucial. Also, if it has a power valve, which I forget if that yr. has one. Make sure it's clean. One other thing to check is your needle. It could be wearing out.
