How do I create a photo album?

Advice on how to create a wedding photo book album with card pages.?

  • Hiya im getting married next year and we are on a tight budget. we have enquired about a Professional photographer but they seem to be a little expensive. I have friends who have good en entry level cameras who would be happy to take the pics for the wedding. I would then require a company to create the album. most of the online photo books are paper based and look cheap. Any advice would be much appreciated

  • Answer:

Since you live in the UK, go to John Lewis or any other bricks-and-mortar store that has these, look at their traditional wedding albums, nothing beats actually getting your hands physically on the album to check the quality, then get the photos printed, stick them in yourself. It's not rocket science!!! Oh and make sure you use acid free (photographic quality) adhesives - you can get double sided sticky tape that is acid free. I have found the photo corners they often supply with such albums to be practically useless. @ Steve P - with respect, someone who can't afford a pro is not going to hire one. End Of.

I'm not going to specifically answer your question, but instead offer some friendly advice. Whether or not you take it is up to you, but don't say you were not warned. I think you are putting the cart before the horse. Why worry about a fancy wedding album if the photos you have for it are terrible? You may have friends with "nice" entry level cameras, but that does NOT make them photographers, it simply makes them camera owners. There is a terrible misconception now a days that all that is required for good photography is a good camera. So, so wrong. That is like saying all that is required for a gourmet meal is the right ingredients and cooking utensils. You also need a CHEF. Far too many wedding couples have looked back in regret over cutting costs on their photography by having some friend do it. The results are typically poor quality snapshots with awful lighting, many out of focus, poor exposure, poor composition. Also, these amateur "wedding photographers" have no back up equipment. What happens when the camera or lens fails or is damaged? You have no photos, that is what happens. Pro wedding photographers are "a little expensive" for a reason. They bring so much more to the table. Years of experience doing this kind of work. Skill and knowledge in using high end equipment to create beautiful photographs for you. Also, they will have back up equipment in case something does go wrong, you are not going to be without photos. I feel you should SERIOUSLY rethink your budget. Cut corners where ever else you have to, but don't try to cheap out on your photography. It is the ONE thing that will last from the wedding. Cake, flowers, food, a fancy venue, .... those things are not going to be there for you years from now. Hire a pro that will provide you the photos you want AND the type of album you want. Trying to piecemeal it together like you are doing will disappoint you, ..... of that I can almost promise you. Congrats on your wedding! steve @BK... lots of people CAN afford a pro photographer if they do not spend the money on other frivolous things. Cut the budget somewhere else, not on the photography.
