Can lifecam vx-800 take pictures?

How do I choose what my autofocus focuses on?

  • I have a Microsoft LifeCam Studio webcam that has auto focus on it. I sometimes try to take pictures of inanimate objects, but the camera doesn't focus on the right part of it. For example: I'm trying to take a picture of a silver bracelet that has words engraved on it, the camera keeps on focusing on the object itself but I want to focus on the words on the object. Please help!

  • Answer:

In order for the letters to look neat, the lens needs to be at a certain distance. For the bracelet as a whole (but not the letters) to look neat, it's a different distance. That distance is controlled with what everyone calls "the focus". Its called automatic for the simple reason that you can't change it, it's been already programmed so that you don't need to worry about it. If you can't get the letters, it means it's too close for the camera. The only thing you can do is move the bracelet away from the camera until the letters are visible. The only problem is, that way, you won't be able to get a close up of the letters, but it's all you can do. Try and see if there's an option in the settings of the camera to switch to manual focus, but I think you'll still have the same problem. Hope I helped!

Why are you using a WEBCAM for macro photography? Even little P&S "toy" cameras often do a pretty decent job of macro photography - certainly better than webcams which were not designed for that purpose.
