Best way to print black and white photos?

I would like to start my own photography buisness and want to know the best way to print photos?

  • Answer:

There is no single best way! I have a transportable dye-sub printer that goes with me to events, so I can rattle off decent quality prints on the go if I need to. The downside is that it is expensive per print and the options are limited. For something more special I'll use the facilities of local photographic shops, there's usually one in most decent sized towns. This gives you the ability to produce output same day, but whit a greater range of sizes, and framing options. Finally, if time is not an issue you can have the photographs printed by one of the large labs (usually online). The range of sizes, finishes, and everything else when you take this option is almost limitless. What I would say, is to be upfront with your customers about the costs. Remember you are not selling them your time, or even a photograph, it should be a cherished memory!

As a professional photographer, I used to use boutique printers or my own Epson professional printer. I discovered about a year ago that CostCo has superior quality printers, excellent paper choices, and techs who actually do a good job. You can download their printer profiles. Their prices are unbelievable. And the quality is as good as any lab as they replace their equipment with great frequency. As strange as it is, CostCo is really as good as you can get at a great price.

MpixPro BlueCube (http://s368228973.onlinehome.us/bluecubeimaging/onlinePrint.html) Buy a large format printer and calibration tool and do in house printing. I personally use MPixPro ... even with the 30$ shipping to Canada (US people get a much better deal) and the 14$ of duty. They are REALLY fast! I get the order in like 4-5 days and that's including international shipping. BlueCube does quite a bit of business with photographers on Model mayhem and they all have onl;y good things to say about the service.

That's a good option, I have used Mpix as well. They are good quality and have a lot of options for you to show your work.

For larger art prints, I do my own printing. For consumer orders, I use Pictage.
