No , You just need to know your subject and be a bit artistic ( something college can't teach). I decided not to go to college and started working for a photographer as a runner, cleaning the studio getting sandwiches after 3 months a second assistant I then replaced the assistant after a year, now this was a top advertising photographer and he taught me more about photography and particularly dealing with clients, quoting and organizing a shoot that I would have learnt in a life time at college. The salary wasn't great but at least I wasn't paying a college. I started with him when I was 17 and never regretted it. How did I get the job? The same way I have always employed my assistants, by knocking on his door. Letters end up in the bin. You can judge for yourself the results in my gallery. http://www.mccordall.com/photography/ you might find that the videos are worth a look as well.

No idea. you probably do need some *spark* to set you apart such as a degree in photography. talent. no idea. good portfolio? it might be the case that employers only take on photographers with a degree. probably won't need anything like that if you're self employed but you'll need to know what you're doing, who to speak to. So yeah maybe education in the subject would be beneficial.
In the past, absolutely not. Nowadays society is becoming increasingly target and qualification driven, and sometimes a qualification is needed to get your first job, but after that you need to depend on your skills.

in the future but you can make money with photography even if you are not qualified as long as you shot good.

It does help but you also need striking creativity and getting your work known also helps

No - you just need to be very, very good at what you do.

Of course not!! A good portfolio is what you need. Experience > qualification in anything media related. Good luck.

It helps, but mostly needs good contacts
