How to become a successful documentary photographer?

  • I started photography a few months ago. Basically I like to take photographs of people around me and in future I would like to become a professional freelance documentary photographer. Here's some of my pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kazi_riasat/ My question is that am I on the right track to become a famous documentary photographer like Philip Blenkinsop, Abbas or Raghu Rai? Some people are saying that as a beginner my moment taking capability is good but my Post Processing is just weird. Is it really true? And still I dont have even any basic courese on photography. But I would like to know that what kinda academic background on photograpy is requred to become a good documentry photographer?

I don't know any of the photographers you mentioned, but if you like photojournalism type photography and pictures of people, then I suggest getting a book on taking pictures of people (even portrait photography books contain sections on documentary photography, since not all portraits have to be formal). Then try to practice what you read.
