Is Inter-Species Erotica Illegal?

Which of the world's many artists have created works depicting child erotica? (it's for a research project)?

  • I'm doing a research project of child exploitation in the media, and I need a few names of artists of child erotica (softcore or hardcore, symbolic or literal); by artists, I don't mean photographers (I'm gonna get enough grief without that), I mean people who actually sit down and draw/paint/create such works. I don't need links, just names; I can work from there. Also, no lolicon/shotacon/toddlercon artists, unless their work's realistic enough to be considered child erotica by law. I reiterate, this is for a research project, not for personal pleasure, so nobody freak out. Also, mods, please don't delete this question; it's a request for names, not pics; nothing more or less.

  • Answer:

The closest that I can think of would be some religious iconography of various saints or angels. For example, nudes of putto by Michaelangelo on the Sistine Chapel. (The little boys with angel wings are called putto.)

The closest recent examples I can think of are the erotically charged but also ambiguous canvases of Balthus and Paula Rego -- who is still alive and may well object to that. The images in question she does are psychologically charged pictures of men being manipulated (like dolls) and dominated by women and girls who look similar enough so they may be the same person: http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/artists/artpages/rego_paula_the_family.htm One story I've heard is they were inspired by what her family went through during her husband's final illness and death, but they are so visceral it is pointless to deny an erotic element in the horror. Balthus, a.k.a Count Balthazar Klossowski was a Polish Nobleman whose work speaks for itself. http://www.studio-international.co.uk/reports/balthus.asp http://www.themorgan.org/exhibitions/exhibPast03.asp?id=50 Other than that Charles Dodgeson, yes Lewis Carroll, did some nude photographs of his young ladies. Come to think of it, there is Wilhelm Von Gloeden who did a lot of nudes of Sicilian boys, some quite young, around the end of the nineteenth century. A lot of religious art is also erotically charged of course -- though a lot isn't.
