Where to get jobs for web design?

Will i get paid more if i have an AA in graphic design as well as an AA in web design?

• I just graduated from the Art Institute with an AA in graphic design. However, while looking for jobs i noticed that graphic designers with Flash/html knowledge get higher paying jobs. If I obtain an AA in web design as well, will that allow me to have the opportunity to apply for higher paying graphic design jobs?

  First off, I hope you graduated from an Art Institute that is regionally accredited. Many of them are not. Which means you may have spent a lot of money to go to a private college and your credits may never be transferable should you in the future wish to get a 4 year degree elsewhere. The lines between graphic Design and Web design have blurred for many companies. You will find Ad's that want people to be both. They want you to know everything in smaller companies. In larger companies you can do one simple thing and be really good at it. One problem with both careers but particularly web design is that companies can now outsource a lot of work to Korea where they can get someone to work for 1/5 of what am American would do for the same job. If you are just in it for the money you should get into web database stuff PHP all that fun stuff... I don't think databases and heavy programming are fun at all... but things along those lines make more money because they are more boring.. lol Flash is fun, but until Apple gets over itself it and accepts Flash for the IPAD and IPHONES emphasis has and will continue to move away from Flash on the web. It seems to me you like computers and would do either of these things. That's cool... I don't think you should get an AA in web design though.. First off... you're going to blow a lot of money on something you can teach yourself with a few books and some time.. Also another Associates degree isn't going to look any better on your resume. Flash isn't that hard to learn as a basic user. Of course being a Flash Developer is a whole different level and will take more time. Are you technical or more visual? That will ultimately be your guide... Do you want to make a magazine layout or be a code monkey or something in-between. In this job market what I'd do is just try to get a job in graphic design, and do some free online tutorials (make sure they are newer, the older ones will have out of date material) pick up some books in web stuff or buy some training from lynda.com in web subjects you want to learn while you work.
