Where can I get a source of inspiration?
-
I used to go to church to get an uplifting message at least once a week. However, in my personal belief system I feel that church is not for me. The reasons are based on the religious views on same-sex marriage, the bible is also full of anti-female scriptures, and honestly I just do not personally believe in the Christian religion after 5 years of investigation. However I enjoyed the concept of inspiration from a higher power. I want that sort of message in my life, but one that is not so assuming to know every detail of God as I personally believe we only know some and if there is a god, it is not one religion. What is a good spiritual, or at least uplifting, source to get messages on: 1. Loving others 2. Being our best 3. Motivation 4. How to deal or cope with things 5. Believing that things truly matter 6. Core values in living life 7. How to succeed as a person Basically, what is a good way of getting this type of influence. Is there a motivational speaker who is good or...

Perhaps you should try another church? Different churches have different interpretations of the bible even though they are of the same denomination. Because there are hundreds of denominations out there and there hundreds more of subdenominations. Perhaps your specific church doesn't suit your interpretations of the bible. My church is very non-conservative even though its a Southern Baptist Chuch. We have two traditional services and we have one contemporary service in which people can come in casual clothes and listen to the band play their keyboard, drums, base, electric, and backup singers sing. Even the pastor wears denim jeans and a collared up shirt with rolled up sleeves for this service. The only bad thing I have found about this church is that the church doesn't tolerate girls and guys swimming in the same pool. And by girls and guys I mean high school students and perhaps college students. But since we don't do a lot of swimming pool activities that doesn't really bother me. So you're first option is to try out various churches. Don't think that this is bad because going to a church that suits your need is not un-christian like. There were I think six or seven churches in the early years of Christianity and all of them were different in style and teaching. Some churches were bad so people who went to those churches moved and went to other churches to find one that is good and suitable to their interpretations. Now you're other options: 1. Pastor is the best source for this. The only problem is is finding the right pastor 2. Secular speech-giver. You don't need Christianity to do this unless you mean by "being your best" you mean "being the best Christian" then that would be more for a specific bible study or sunday school group. Go to a pastor's reception (that's what we call it in my church where newcomers can meet pastors and leaders of my church and get to know it more) and see what kind of smaller size groups and classes they are involved in . 3. Secular speech-giver once again. If you mean motivation to be a better christian, pastor or bible study group. Or even a missionary who is coming to give a speech about his or her life. 4. Small group. Best option and only option. My church has several groups for this (including marriage and divorce, death of a loved one, etc). If you don't want to mingle with others, the back of the bible has some tags with scriptural references and this is a great way to find the passage of the general topic you're looking for. 5. That's a tough one. Pastors don't really touch on this subject (it's kinda vague so I'm not really sure what you're trying to get at for #5). The best option is to listen to a guest speaker. Then small group leader, then pastor 6. Pastor is best option (well at least in my church.. again choose the church that you feel best in where you are comfortable with the interpretation of the bible, the people are nice, and the atmosphere is christian-like) 7. Secular speech-giver. You don't need a pastor or small group for that. By secular speech-giver I mean a nonpastor or non-minister of (blah blah blah... minister of education for example at least that's what they are in my church). Secular speaker can be a guest speaker in a university, in the city in general, in a school, in a business, etc. I don't know anyone specific for any of these but that's where you research comes along. And with you doing the research, you will personally see which is the best and which is something you're not comfortable with. Hope that will help you find the influence you need :)

the key for inspiration is in the word 'open'. that's the attitude for your eyes, mind, heart, hands. inspiration literary means the breath of wind that comes to you. for it to really get to you, you have to be 'available'. it's also about the core of your being, as a person. how you read whatever sign comes to you, cuz it somehow connects to what you believe to be true about yourself and surrounding world. you can get inspiration by asking questions, by changing the usual, by imagining an ideal or horrifying situation. nature is a great source. you could walk outside to a tree and ask yourself: do we look the same? what do we have in common? what's the purpose of its life? what question would I like it to answer? it doesn't really matter, as long as you're honest to yourself. just give it a try
