What are the top schools/colleges to major in Art?

2D or 3D Art to be an Architect?

  • Hey, I have officially decided that I want to become an Architect. And well, I'm a freshman, but I am thinking for my future schedule. Well, is 2D art or 3D art good for being an architect? Which one do you think is more important, and which one do you think will help me more in the long run. I am already know I am going to take Desktop Publishing, to teach me Photoshop and more effective computer stuff, and I am also going to take Web Design b/c it will teach me how to use Dream-weaver. Plus I love computer/technology stuff. So I'm thinking that the computer skills will help me, and which are do you think I should take? Which is more useful? Are they both equal and important skills for an Architect? PLEASE TELL ME! Thanks, and I am already taking all the necessary classes (Geometry, Science, etc...). All I have to figure out are my electives. And what grade should I take the electives in? Right now I'm a freshman these are the amount of electives I have WITHOUT Web Design or Desktop Publishing, nothing: -Sophomore: 2 Sophomores left -Junior: 2 electives left -Senior: 3 electives left and the Art classes are followed: Adv=Advanced -Intro to 2D Art -Adv. 2D Art II -Adv. 2D Art III -Adv. 2D Art IV -Intro to 3D Art -Adv. 3D Art -Ceramics I -Ceramics II -Adv. Ceramics -AP Studio Art 2D -AP Studio Art 3D Design (Ceramics) -AP Studio Art 3D Design (Glass work) I was thinking that Sophomore year I'll take Web Design I and Intro to 2D Art. Then Junior year take Web Design II and Adv. 2D Art II Then Senior year take Adv. 2D Art, Intro to 3D Art, and Desktop Publishing. That's saying that 2D is more important than 3D, but.... I don't know. And Plus I have no idea what AP Studio Art is, so please explain if you know, thanks! Well, that's my dilemma, hope you can help! Chow! OH! And if you have any suggestions that will help me progress/evolve into my career (architect) thanks! Like suggest any classes. And what do you think of Photography? Help or no help?

  • Answer:

I was just answering a question the other day from someone who was unhappy that they were making him draw freehand in his architectural rendering class. Listen kid, when you are working on something like this the key is organization. And you have to be aware of every mark you make on your plans. You would be utterly amazed at how bad reproduction can make a design unusable so focus more on artistic foundations -- 2 AND 3 dee in other words. For architecture take a minimum of computer courses. That doesn't mean use the computer as little as you can, but if your school will even accept those courses for an architecture degree -- you are not likely to find man y companies who will accept that degree. The web has NOTHING to do with buildings. If you want to use it to get an income on the side, fine. But get a portfolio instead of a grade in it.

You need both 2 and 3D and regardless of anything, you ned to draw and draw and draw. Everthing 3D comes from 2D. That's all I can say.
