Famous Charcoal artists?

What is the "drawing" difference between graphite artists' pencils and charcoal artists' sketch pencils?

• I'm a new student to the world of drawing, however, I'm an accomplished artist in many other media. I can't believe that drawing has interested me so late in life. Well, anyway, I need a drawing expert to explain to me the differences between sketching in charcoal vs. graphite. I'm looking for comparisons like (1) "blendability;" (2) ability to obtain very soft to very heavy lead on the paper; (3) which paper does each seem to work "better" with; (3) I know graphite comes in every lead from 8H to 8B, does charcoal have the same range?; (4) is one better for one type of art - I'm studying to be a police sketch artist - than others?; (5) Do they both respond to fixitive pretty evenly? (6) which is your favorite and why; and (7) does anyone have a BRAND favorite for either? Thank you so very much for helping this new "drawer."
