What should I change on this 3D animation that I've made?

3d character design topology huge question!?

  • alright so ive been doing 3d modeling and physic ect. is their a name for the kind of topology of characters like Madagascar 3d animation / team fortress 2 / pixars movie UP where the main character is made using more of quad topology like his face and ears and hands? is their a name for this kind of modeling? because im more interested in that than making realistc humans for 3d characters

  • Answer:

Stylized (US English), or stylised (British English) - or sometimes "exaggerated" - I think is perhaps what most 3D CG people would call that look. Some people might call such characters "cartoony", or "comic-bookish". Some animation/film industry-watchers might spot an influence in the art direction coming from the low-poly aesthetics of videogame characters. Digital Tutors recently titled one of the training series "Creating Stylized Females in Maya". Gnomon also used recently titled a training DVD "Stylized Character Modeling for Production". CG Feedback recently had a challenge to their users, to make this kind of figure/character. They didn't call it anything special, just "stylised". Looks like "stylized" it is.
