How can I get a job in advertising world?

Can i get a job in advertising or graphic design if i can't draw and don't have an undergrad in it?

  • I'm an undergraduate student with a major in art history and book and media studies. I'm graduating very soon and i realized that i want a career in advertising, marketing, or graphic design. I''m more interested in advertising and graphic design but i don't have the drawing skills for that so i'm thinking marketing is a safer bet. Also because marketing is so broad, changing jobs would be easier in the future. I'm planning to get a post grad certificate in business after since most marketing jobs require a business background. Do you think marketing is the best choice? Thanks!

    Yes. Go with marketing. Drawing skills take an enormous amount of effort and time to develop. then too, you need confidence and speed to be an effective graphic designer. You can study drawing and design in classes after you are in the field. Your Art History background will help you to understand and describe the design concepts you will be marketing later and to communicate with the designers.

in my opinion, you should stick with the marketing idea. any of the arts are highly competitive amd if you don't have the paperwork qualifications, you're expected to have a tremendous amount of skill. marketing will be easier to slide into, and there are alot of short courses that include marketing that you can take to increase your knowledge on the subject.

i would go for marketing as if you think of the amount of people who have unndergrads in graphic design that are looking for a job, they are most likely to pick them over you, plus marketing is so much broader and even after you get some knowledge about marketing maybe then you can proceed onto learning about graphics etc...
