Will I be able to learn enough Japanese to become a manga artist in Japan? I am 14..?
-
My dream is to become a manga artist.. My art is improving gradually although it is not perfect I have a storyline for a manga but everybody who wants to be a manga artist does.. so, anyway: My main concern is if my literature skills in Japanese will not be good enough because the editors will obviously not go out of their way to perfect my Japanese if it's not "Japanese" enough since so many other REAL Japanese are submitting their manga work too. I really want to publish in Japan. 絶対に。 I am Korean born in New Zealand so my main language is English.. My Korean is also not fluent. I have learnt Hiragana and Katakana but I only know some kanji so far.. My speech and listening skills are maybe like an 8 year old Japanese child; in fact it could be worse. I have learn Japanese only via watching anime. ^^'' So if from now I put absolutely the BEST effort possible to learn Japanese sufficient enough to be a manga artist.. will I make it? I'm sorry I am asking here for such a selfish thing.. I just want to achieve this. Thank you for answering.. I will be happy to help with your concerns too. Please help :) すごく心配して相談して見ないと思ってました、どうかお手伝いしてください。 わがままな気持ちでこんなことを聞いてすみません。

I think your well on your way my friend. I'm 17 and I know a lot less then you do. I would like to do something similar so my advice is to take classes in both the language and in the drawing style. You learn sooooo much about there culture ad everything in classes. But with wha you have so far language wise, you have a very nice head start. Also, if you take japanese in college, after a year, you get to study abroud ;) Hope this helps

Do you know how to become a manga artist? Most manga artitsts work for popular artists as assistant for long time before their debut. It means that you need to be able to speak fluent Japanese. Okey? I thought, "sufficient enough to be a manga artist" = "sufficient enough to be a Japanese" This is my opinion.
read some books about "learn to speak japanese" I can speak japanese....LITTLE BIT like those "konnichiwa", "hai", "iei", "gomenasai" XD I also wanted to learn to speak ( I don't know how to write japanese characters ) I'm older than you so...keep practicing :) and speak or use japanese in some japanese websites for japanese art website http:www.pixiv.com

Hey man. If you put your mind to it, than you can do it! Learning a second language isn't as hard as becoming a good artist though, so don't let learning the language be your first priority. Remember, your art skills should come first. But anyway, try your best, and you'll make it~!

I wouldn't try to learn japanese via anime shows. The subtitles can be faultily translated. I recommend you take a language class.
