What is the best way to learn drawing anime?

Agree or Disagree: Anime is just a cheap way of drawing "well"?

  • yea...I don't draw anime I draw free-style.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/evernightsky/ Im not trying to say anything in a mean way, but seriously, its alot easier than drawing other things and I feel like it gives people more credit than they deserve.. Hell I know im not that great! Basically I just want an "agree" or "disagree" from people to see what they think. I found someone who draws anime so here http://www.flickr.com/photos/50664627@N07/ and I do think anime is CUTE! I like it, but yea...anyways what do u think?

  • Answer:

Disagree. I do not draw anime as I am a professional artist (traditional mediums and subject matter) and too old for the anime craze. But, when I was young I initially learned to draw from copying cartoons in the newspaper. It was great practice. Any drawing is good practice to build skills.

agree. i love anime but it originally started in japan because the live action movie scene was way behind its time so they decided that with anime anything could happen and so on and so forth

Disagree. Many pros draw anime and it looks realistic, too. It's not a cheap way of drawing well, because if you can draw and good, then you CAN draw WELL. I hate people that think "Realism is art. Not anime." They are both art. And I have a friend who can draw REALLY AWESOME realism, but she SUCKS at drawing anime. (Shocking right?) So I think anime is a way of drawing and not EVERYONE can do it.

I see more than a hint of some manga style in your drawings especially the baby dragon. I think you are looking at chibis and naming that style as anime. Whether either style has any artistic merit is up for debate but before starting the discussion, I think the terms need to be understood and accepted – anime refers to any animation in any style, the only real restriction is, I suppose, that it must be Japanese in origin or influence. Similarly manga refers to a broad spread of comic book styles.

Disagree, it strongly depends on the style this is also "anime" style and I think it's real art http://animextremist.com/artbooks/cannabis-works/cannabisworks4.jpg
