Fennec Foxes as pets?
-
I know i've been asking about a few different animals lately, A skunk, a prairie dog, about my guinea pig. But My parents said NO to a skunk because they just simply don't want one and cause there "ugly" ha-ha. And They said NO to the prairie dog cause my mom doesn't like Rodents. But my mom said and i quote "I wouldn't mind getting one of those fennec foxes, or having it in the house, there really cute and they look way smarter than your guinea pig" which then got me to really wanting one. But she still says NO. and when i ask her why they say " because i said so, and im your parent". I don't think they should be able to say that which it gives no information/ reasons at all. Are there any ways i can convince them.? Cause its not like i say i want one cause there cute. I want one because i spent hours and hours of research on them and they fit our life style. And yes, I do know they require a Class 3 permit to own, they ARE LEGAL to own in the state of Florida. And the Males are more calm and more cuddly than the females, the females are more fast and hyper. I would get him/her Spayed/Neutered . I know they can eat only certain types of cat food that have the protein they need, and you can also feed them mice, crickets, and meal worms. An for anyone who has/had one are they good pets. I know there not "pets" liek dogs and cats. cause they require more attention and alot more work. Any information/stories or ways to convince my parents about the fennec Fox would be great :DD And anyone who doesnt knwo what they look like: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://gotpetsonline.com/pictures-gallery/exotic-pictures-breeders-babies/fennec-fox-pictures-breeders-babies/pictures/fennec-fox-0009.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.gotpetsonline.com/fennec-fox/fennec-fox-sale/fennec-fox-sale.html&usg=__6vZkSTHLpaNbadXR4d7ExQnXG5Y=&h=308&w=360&sz=41&hl=en&start=12&sig2=bhoH79KZf_P2gdoOEAnntQ&zoom=1&tbnid=RRU0DSwEbF8wQM:&tbnh=151&tbnw=186&ei=n1MoTpPVBo66tgfO-927Cg&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dfennec%2Bfox%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX%26pwst%3D1%26rlz%3D1T4ADBF_enUS291US291%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D486%26tbm%3Disch&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=791&vpy=93&dur=1872&hovh=208&hovw=243&tx=120&ty=118&page=2&ndsp=10&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:12&biw=1280&bih=486 http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://abeautifulmess.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8358081ff69e20120a64c5fa3970b-800wi&imgrefurl=http://abeautifulmess.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8358081ff69e20120a64c5fa3970b-popup&usg=__GIdDKP9hrvNWFBe27O4NeGslqxo=&h=480&w=640&sz=145&hl=en&start=12&sig2=NhyZbe9OYV81VW4kZ0T9cQ&zoom=1&tbnid=b0_LGzmWdnrquM:&tbnh=145&tbnw=205&ei=z1MoTt_GFpK5tweR2YG8Cg&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dfennec%2Bfox%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX%26pwst%3D1%26rlz%3D1T4ADBF_enUS291US291%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D486%26tbm%3Disch&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=156&page=2&ndsp=10&ved=1t:429,r:7,s:12&tx=11&ty=125 those are long links D: thanks! Answer:
Your parents are probably saying no because they realize they will be the caretakers of an exotic animal (which may or maynot be legal in your area). Also, you should think about who is going to look after the animal when you move out (either to college or to an apartment). College dorms do not allow pets, and the majority of apartments do not allow exotic pets. Therefore, the animal will probably have to stay in your parents house. Not to mention, because they are not domestic animals, they will not be cute and cuddily. they will probably grow up to be stand-offish, aggressive, and potentially dangerous. Having exotic pets is a LOT more work than a guinea pig or other domestic pet. if you want one that badly, wait til youre old enough to have one for yourself in your own place.

These animals are not meant to be pets. however it is possible and has been done before. you will need a large outdoor inclosure and a steady supply of small animals to feed it. this is not a dog, like you stated. you will most likely need to feed it a balanced diet of mice, rats, fruit and or vitamin supplements. All of this will not be cheap either. the animal itself will cost thousands to buy, and then the enclosure will cost thousands more to maintain. feeding and grooming it will take atleast an hour per day, and cost big $. if you want to get it neutered, finding a vet to do it will be difficult and expensive. Like you said, this isnt a dog. My suggestion? try to sell your mom on the Ginuea Pig. it is common, easy to maintain and cheap.

You've done a lot of research haven't you? What I did to get my guinea pig was I compiled a list of information about the animal and pros and cons to owning it, I also made a contract I was very formal about it and business like. I stated the responsibility I would take on and how I would deal with them, I made a list of the things getting the pet would require and finally I signed it at the bottom. If this fails, sit down and have a talk about it, bargain if you can. Keep and whining out of your voice( it helps a lot) and If the answer is still no, then ask about different animal and try too compromise. This is what worked for me, I have no idea if it will work for you.
