How does adopting a pet from a shelter benefit the community?

I know how adopting and caring for an animal can benefit a person, but how can adopting a cat or a dog from an animal rescue shelter benefit the community?

Gives the shelter the space to take another animal off the streets which I'm sure pleases people who aren't happy about the abandoned or ill treated dog pooping on their lawns or cats running around breeding, with that space they can put whole litter and get them fixed, along with the mother, they also know the money they donate to help is actually being used well, most people donate to no-kill shelters and it's good to know that they're not stuck with animals just because they won't kill the ones that aren't adopted straight away.

Its a great thing to adopt a pet needing a home. Makes you feel glad to love the pet that someone dumped etc... Also its helps because you are giving that pet a loving home & gives the shelter an extra space so they can take in a nother pet needing a home. Plus once someone has a pet from there the word goes around & could end up having 100's rehomed just by one person helping! More people should get pets from a shelter. My dog is a rescue dog & he's great! Had him 10yrs now & he was left somewhere so he follows me everywhere still but is very loving & seems to be thankful we took him in! It also gives you a warm fuzzy feeling to know you've done a great thing
If the community owns the shelter, less money will be spend. I guess. Awkward question.
