  • Answer:

First of all rabbits should always be keep with another rabbit it is cruel to keep them on their own. As for vaccinations they need three a year myxomatosis every 6 months and viral haemorrhagic disease every 12 months. These are very important injection and please ignore anyone who says they don't need them these are deadly disease which are spread by certain insects so they don't have to be indirect contact with an rabbit with the diseaes. Your rabbit will be old enough to get the vaccinations when you get it. I would book her in at your vets for the day you get her to start the vaccinations . The vet will probably start with the myxo shot and then two weeks later she can have the VHD one they can't be give together. As for cost it is hard to say as in different ares of the country it cost different where i live it is under £20 a vaccination but well worth the money. As for spaying again you need to check with your vet about price but again worth the money i. always have mine done. Rabbits are also prone to dental problems so you need to be prepared for that just in case as it isn't cheap and it's an on going thing. I have attatced somne site i hope you find useful. http://www.rabbitrehome.org.uk/care/vaccination.asp http://www.adoptarabbit.com/articles/packet/abcvegi.html http://www.rabbit.org/care/veggies.html

It depends on where you live. In the UK rabbits should be vaccinated for Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (VHD) and Myxomatosis. Rabbits can be vaccinated any time from 10 weeks, then need a yearly booster. Its not recommended to get both at the same time - leave about two weeks in between them. Not sure about the cost though. Spaying is vital for female rabbits as it prevents uterine cancer (kills up to 80% of entire females by 5 years old). In England a spay costs areound £60-100. I'm not sure, but I think spaying does include an overnight stay. Spaying is usually done around 5 months old. I didn't get injections for my bunnies. I had them neutered though - one cost £25 and one cost about £45 I think, at a different vets. They both stayed in overnight. Make sure you get dissolvable stitches for them though, as one of mine had to go back and get them taken out which was really traumatic for him.

It's best to vaccinate a rabbit although quite a lot of owners don't and their rabbits live a healthy life, it depends on the environment it lives in. Spaying your bunny is a great idea, most likely she'll have to stay overnight as it's a major operation and the anasthetic won't wear down too quickly.

i have a rabbit which is 3 years old and i didn't bother getting him and injections because he is around no other small animals, and so then is unable to catch any disease, your rabbit is most likely to get an illness if you took them to the vets. :) :)
