How do I convince my parents to let me get a ferret?

I was just wondering if i could get some advice on how to convince my parents to let me get a ferret?

  • You see, I want one more than anything in the world, but I am not sure how to convince them to let me get a ferret.

  • Answer:

Have u researched ferrets enough to know how to care for them properly? You need to educate yourself before making a committment like this, I have three myself and they need a lot of attention and upkeep. Vet bills can also be expensive, so these are things to consider. So maybe once you prove that you have done your homework and you are willing to take out the time on a daily basis to give them proper care, maybe they will let you.

You need to make sure you can properly care for this animal both physically and financially. They are not a cheap animal when it comes to food. Affordable but not cheap. Going cheap can kill them. Do you know the proper care? Have you researched where to get them? Do you have a rescue that all of you could visit? I will tell you as a parent that whining about it makes me very angry. You need to be knowledgable and responsible. The cage must be picked out of dirty litter/feces at least every other day. They require food (good ferret - not cheap ferret or cat food) and water at all times. They cannot be housed in a rabbit cage. They are indoor animals. They must be allowed to run loose and play for at least 4 hours a day. They can and will get into small spaces. If they get outside they will most likely die within 24 hours. They smell but very lightly when kept in a clean environment. They should not be washed to control the smell - it dries out their skin and makes it worse. I recently adopted out to a family whose daughter and husband have wanted one for over a year. They researched, visited my rescue, and now for their daughter's birthday they came and picked up a pair of girls from me. The daughter did not whine about it, she did chores and researched. Last note. Anyone getting an animal for their child or a child purchasing the animal - remember that the parent is physically and financially responsible for the care. NOT the child. Children can learn and provide care along with paying for things but never blame poor care or lack of finances to care for that animal on the child who you let bring the animal into your home. Okay second to last note. I am refering to the US for most of the care. I fully understand that ferrets can live and do live outside in the UK. BUT those are not the mass puppy-mill like ferrets we have in the US.

threat to kill them if they say no

Hello Here are somethings you can do ... . Show them you've done some resertch you can do this by doing somethig like a presentation on ferrets show them the type of cage you would need food ect . Cost . This is a big factor can YOU afford it ? If you are putting up some ofnthe funds work out some timetable for work tp pay off your debt or yu could ask for the animal for a birthday gift ? Or you coud save up some money from b days x mas ect . The really hard part comes with really convincing your parants timing is everything they have too be happy lol spend a week droping a few gentle hits you know some intresting facts about ferrets or something like that maby trying to go to the pet shop and making a point of showing the ferrets i would then sit down and discuss pets with my parents my parents main concern is cost ( as covered ) and space also thinknabout regular food cost and holodays ? Maby if your friends have a ferret ask them if you can look after it for a week to show your parents you are responsible enough ? I wish you the best of luck ! Hope you get your ferret ! Kind regards Alex

Say that you will look after it and keep the cage clean and it doesn't smell as bad as a dog and it won't poo all over the house.
