What is the lump on my horses belly?

Swollen Lump under and between my horses Jaws?

  • Hello! Os yesterday i just noticed that my horse has some swelling under and between her jaws. Its right about here you attach the throat latch and it is about the size of a half dollar. No nasal discharge , or fever( thati kno of ), but she is being kind of lazy lately( although thats most likely from the fact we just mooved barns and have been practicing 3-4 times a week which is more than normal.) I have read that it can be caused by allergys and is just a swollen lymph node and to give some antihistamine and it will help. i think she has allergys because this time of year she sneezes alot haha! But i really want to be sure on what it is. please help!! MORE SPECIFIC DETAILS she is a bay quarter horse, mare, 8 years old. recently had the vet come and give her shots about the size of a half dollar i can feel that isnt attached to the skin all the way( just in a certain spot) all eating habbits are the same pretty sure its not strangles because we just got her vaccinated. right about where the throat latch is only ONE lump just to let you know, please read before you say this in your comments I CAN NOT AFFORD A VET CALL RIGHT NOW!!! My family is already under so much stress because of money and a single vet call basically isnt an option unless i can split the cost with someone who needs the vet also at my barn one last thing DO NOT ANSWER UNLESS YOU ARE CLOSE TO SURE ON WHAT THIS IS OR WHAT I SHOULD DO FOR IT. i dont want any "well maybe..." or " im not sure but..." . i would like if you can a posotive or almost posotive answer please:) i hope i didnt sound rude i an just really worried aout this, i would die if anything happened to my baby:/

  • Answer:

It could be allergies. I would call the Vet out to take a look. They do have shots for it. If you start to see discharge from her nose or a temp. You can give her some Robitussin and put some vicks in her nose. saline works well too to flush out. I would also call your vet see if you can give Benadryl and how much rather then paying for them to give the shot. But no it doesn't sound like strangles to me. It could also be the hay too.
