Is distilled water okay for hermit crabs?

  • I got a hermit crab. And I feel so guilty for having to use tap. I dont have anything else at the time. But I just got him yesterday, and I am going tomorrow to make a better crabitat for him. I was just wondering, how can I make the best possible crabitat? I have a heater with a ten gallon tank, I plan on getting one or two more. But he's shy... But I really hope he's not lethargic or anything. I have a little sponge with water for him to drink...and a bath...a thingy for him to climb on...and an extra shell... What do you guys suggest? I love my hermie to death, and I don't want him to hurt. His name is Theopholus. Also, how do I keep at least 70% humidity in my crabitat?

  • Answer:

    Spray the tank with a spray bottle. Not too much or it might get moldy and kill your crab. But distilled water is best. Tap water contains bad chemicals that can hurt your crab. Get him some treats...mine loved them. The little crab cookies container will last you forever. maybe longer. Cause you dont give them 10 a day. maybe 2. Hope I helped ^.^
