How do I get my horse to trust and respect me?

How can i get my horse to respect me?

  • i first got my horse in the year of 2009. he was pretty good listener, but shew only showed respect for me. when i trailered him to where i lived, we had to board him. slowly, the respect level went downhill. he is good with putting on the tack, he wont bite or kick, but when i ride him he takes off and its like the bit or saddle doesn't matter. he will listen if i pull with all my strength until he cant move his head, but i don't want to keep doing this as it is a form of abuse. i would like some help A.S.A.P as he is turning 7. he is good with riding on the road, and he isn't aggressive, but i would like to get him to respect me before i gointo any competitions. he is a 17.5Hh TB/canadian warmblood.

round penning is a good way to get your horse to pay attention to you, and if they are listing to you they are respecting you. Also if he is a stallion this will be much harder. you may try retraining him by putting his tack and round penning him. just let him run and buck or kick until HE stops him -SELF, when he stops tell him hes a good boy. keep doing this until he doesn't bolt.

beat him with a wheel from a jeep wrangler 4x4.
