Can I get a guinea pig to go with my rabbit?

While some people keep them together without problems, there can be disastrous results and it is not at all a good idea. Why would you want to risk your pet's health? 1. Rabbits and guinea pigs each commonly carry bacteria that, while harmless to the carrier, can kill the other species. For example, up to 80% of rabbits have been shown to be pasteurella carriers (will culture positive for the bacteria on nasal swab). While it usually causes the rabbit no problems or symptoms at all unless they are stressed, it can easily kill a guinea pig who is exposed. 2. Rabbits fed a guinea pig diet long term will ultimately suffer from an excess of Vitamin C, which can cause atherosclerosis and heart attack. Guinea pigs fed a rabbit diet will be deficient in Vitamin C. Their diets are not compatible. 3. Rabbits have incredibly powerful hind legs, and a single kick (intentional or not and even from a small sized rabbit) can seriously injure or kill the guinea pig. In addition, many rabbits are fiercely territorial (particularly when not altered), and may intentionally harm a guinea pig. Overall, it is not worth the risk.

to house together? NO rabbits and guinea pigs have completely different diets for starts they also have completely different social skills. they can be housed in separate cages.. but not together.

Rabbits and guinea pigs should never be housed together. http://www.guineapigcages.com/rabbits.htm

yes it would be fine.

you can, but it will take a long time to make sure they are used to each other. so try putting them in a hutch with a mesh divider in so they can see and smell each other and move on from there or try to introduce them slowly and it might just work. and with the dietary need people keep wittering on about, its ok for guinea pigs to eat rabbit food as long as they get a nice amount of veg and you can research it as well.

i always had them 2gether and they were fine

Well I have 3 rabbits and 1 guinea pig in the same hutch, they sleep together!
