Are hedgehogs good pets?

Are hedgehogs good pets? How does one take care of a hedgehog?

• I am a college student in Wisconsin and my roommate and I are living in an apartment next semester. I've done a lot of research on hedgehogs and there are a lot of mixed answers and different ways to take care of them. I think a hedgehog might be a nice fit for us, but I'd like some personal responses from people. Both my roommate and I have plenty of time to take care of one. We both stay up late, have easy class schedules, spend a lot of time at our place, and love animals. I know they need to live at a certain temperature and eat certain foods. We were just wondering what the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep for a hedgehog is. We would love to get one, we just want to make sure its right for us.

  Hedgehogs are amazing pets! i recently got one myself. her names cookie :) they are nocturnal so theyll probably fit right in with your schedule. Theyre not difficult pets at all. Theyre also VERY CLEAN. cleaner than guinea pigs. their bedding only needs to be changed about once a week and theyre even smart enough to be litter trained. My hedgehog eats cat food, meal worms, and fruits and veggies and i like to keep my room anywhere between 75 and 80 degrees at all times. they should have 12 hours of (NOT DIRECT) sunlight and 12 hours of darkness as it comes naturally to them. They should be handled no less than 15 minutes a day for them to be friendly and you shouldn't wake them up during the day, as they get cranky. Cookie has toys such as a solid ball with a bell inside (cat toy) and a toilet paper tube she likes to play with. Hope that helps :)
