I have three sugar gliders and yes they are adorable pets but are a big responsibility. The way my dad accepted my decision to get them was being so knowledgeable about them. I did all my homework and research on them before and once I started explaining their eating habits and everything there was to know about them before purchasing them he said I can get them. Good luck if you do get them and hopefully this helps! P.S. they get lonely and depressed if they are by themselves so my advice to you is that you should probably get them in pairs cause they can even pass away from depression of being lonely.
First, make sure that they are legal to own in your state. Then research everything it needs and the cost. Also calculate the monthly cost of food and bedding. If you are mature and demonstrate responsibility you will have a chance to convince your parents. But, it is their home and if they don't want one you will just have to wait until you are an adult.
Omg! I dont know how to answer your question, but I looked up the Sugar Glider, (i have never seen one before), and it is sooooo cute! I want one too!
make sure you do your research. save every site you use and show him how knowledgeable you are on the topic show him all the research you've done also ask him to ask you any questions(make sure you know anything he might ask) thats what did it for me [email protected]<< im an extra expert on the topic cuz i have 2 so if you need any info i have sites and personal experience
I did six months of research on them before I got to get my girls. Oh, and the first answer you got is CRAP. They aren't easy to take care of. They need freshly prepared meals every single night, which consists of a supplement mix that you make yourself, normally in a blender, fruits, veggies, and bugs. Normally mealworms is the select choice for suggies. They need a large cage and lots of toys that should be switched out every two weeks or so, just so that they don't get bored. The cages that they should live in are normally at LEAST $200. That's for the minimum size, unless you can find a screamin' deal for one on Craigslist or something. Oh, and vet care can get EXPENSIVE. A regular exam at my vet is $55. That's just for them to look at everything, that's not including fecals and urinalysis, which you need to get your glider/s when you get them. The fecals are about $25 and then the urinalysis is about $20 from my vet. That's an expensive wellness check! Not to mention any possible EMERGENCIES that most likely will happen. DON'T be one of the ones that say, "Oh, it could never happen to me." It CAN. And it most likely WILL since they live for as long as a dog. Don't be fooled by some websites. ESPECIALLY a site called Perfect Pocket Pets. They are a bunch of liars that misinform every single person they sell their sick and underage gliders to. If you want more info, just e-mail me. I HIGHLY recommend that you go to www.sugarglider.net It's a very friendly community and everyone will answer your questions, and you'll almost always get a response in about two minutes. There are sugar glider newbies to the experienced ones and breeders on there. There's a classified section - for suggies and glider stuff, like cages, pouches, toys, etc. It's a fun forum, and it's honestly the best glider site you'll be able to find. Everyone on there knows the up-to-date information on suggies, and they'll help you find a good diet for your gliders, a good vet, and they'll even help you out. Like right now, I'm having some problems with my white one I got a few weeks ago (and they're not very minor problems, either), and one of them is going to send me some Wombaroo powder (for a diet mix, it's better than the one they're on now, which is BML. It's still approved, but HPW is better.) She's also going to send me some fleece and things so that I can make things for them. I also got 2nd or 3rd place in a contest and she sent me earrings as a prize. They also have glider gatherings. You don't have to have gliders or take them if you have them, and I'm DYING to go to one. Everyone says it's tons of fun. But again, I HIGHLY recommend that you register there. :)
