Jungle Parasite Clear for Oscars? Safe for Plecos?
-
I have 4 oscars 1 Albino 1 Tiger and 2 Red all about 8 inches and 2 small Plecos about 4 or 5 inches in a 65G. I have never fed Feeders but dnt know if the previous owner might have. The albino Oscar would always breathe heavily never at the surface but breathing really heavily, now hes stopped eating and still breathing very heavily not very active anymore either. 1 of my red oscars is now breathing heavily too but still eats. The 2 Red Oscars had Hole in the head when i got them and still do, Now my Tiger oscar is starting to get Hith. The Albino is the only one without HIth. Ive Noticed White spots on the Pectoral Fins on their sides and the fins are sort of ripping apart exept for the Albino. I have also seen white stringy poop but dnt know from wich one. The 2 red ones and the Tiger still eat very well, always at the surface of the water waiting for food when i come. I feed Hikari Cichlid Gold Large Pellets, Raw Uncooked Shrimp from Wal-mart, and Beefheart Cubes. I alternate these foods, everyday ssomething different I have a Fluval 405 for this tank and Aerator so Oxygen is not a Problem and the water is very clear and clean. I also do 25% water changes weekly. I Bought Jungle Parasite Clear not the tablets, looks like Grains of salt, Yesterday and plan on using it today. Im doing a 30% water change today and im raising temp to 84. Im also removing the carbon from filter. Can I leave my Plecos in the tank while treating? Can I feed my oscars like usuall? Im planning on leaving the treatment for 6 Days, Should i do water changes between and do i have to add JPC to the new water too? Anything else i Should know would be Greatly Aprecciated thanks. Hope this works

Answer:
You seem to have a couple problems happening. Treating the ich is a good idea, but you may also have to treat with a couple antibacterials. use a medicated food if you can find one. (I used to make my own, depending on what I was treating) Hard to say if your water quality is an issue, since clear and clean doesn't really mean healthy, but you seem to be doing proper maintenance for the amount of fish you have. . In addition you have too many fish in that tank, and some of your problems are typical of having too many oscars in too small a tank, especially with a couple plecos. .

Its safe to use for a plec should really use in half doses . More of a problem is 4 oscars and 2 small plecos in 65 gallons a single Adult oscar needs 55 gallons as a juvenile and 75 plus as an Adult 2 Oscars would need 125 gallons plus . The oscars you have alone should be in a 200 gallon tank now . Edit ..I have a 14 inch tiger oscar in 125 gallons i could not imagine him fitting in a 55 gallon tank hes just to big . At the end of the day there your fish not mine .
