Cheap ammonia testing thing?

  • I just want ammonia...maybe I'll get nitrates too. But I need 1 or 2 things to test...I dnt want to test alot of thing... Do you know of a cheap ammonia test thing? nitrates? And I''m not talking about tose inaccurate test strips

    the master test kits are the best. you can order one on amazon for under $20 US right now. I think I bought mine in petsmart for about $30 CAD a year ago and I only just ran out of fluids. It's much more accurate than those strips.. and only takes at a max 5 minutes to do. http://www.amazon.com/Mars-Freshwater-Master-Test-Kit/dp/B000255NCI there are extras in there... you'll get the hi and lo ph testers as well as ammonia, nitrite and nitrates... but they're good to have on hand just in case.

You can find some at a pet store in liquid form for all of these. The strips are fairly accurate for the nitrate and ammonia, but not so much for the pH or other things. Liquid is best for accuracy though. A company called Hagen makes some that are relatively cheap and come with enough testing liquid to last about 40-50 tests. Realistically you only should need to do one if you suspect a problem with your water. Hope this helps!

There is no point just testing for one without testing the other important parameters. A cheap test kit is also not ideal, they have such differences between test kits you should ideally have 3. Then you take the average reading from the 3 samples. A full good kit will cost around £20, compared to a lot of lost fish and a lot of costly treatments £20 is a bargain.
