Why are my goldfish fins turning yellow?

My gold fish's fins are turning black?

  • The edges of the fin of my goldfish are turning black. Let me tell you, its not a tropical fish just a plain old gold fish, that I won at the school carnival. But for some reason its not really gold, its almost white; like a very VERY light gold color to the fish and its see through-ish so it might be a baby(?) The fins are starting to turn black at the ends. There is no fraying what so ever. What could this be, could it be the beginning of fin rot or just ammonia burns? Genetics, perhaps?

    Sounds like the fish is just maturing and changing color. If no signs of disease or lethargy just continue your good care taking.

I wouldn't worry. I have five very healthy goldfishes (I've had them for almost a year now. Tanis and Sunkist's fins turned black at the edges, and I Freaked! I thought evil was taking a flesh-form and they were going demonic or something, haha. But it is natural. They could have been adjusting to the water temperature, maturing, I don't know, but I googled it, and I know that whatever it was was harmless! If your fish gets white spots on him, buy IckAway medicine from WalMart or Pet Warehouse. Ick is a fish-killing disease! Oh, and your fish's fins should turn back to gold eventually. It may take days, weeks even.

Not sure but my old fish had it's scales turning black and was falling off. So what I did was took a pinch of salt and put it in my tank. Next few days it was gone! Works like magic.
