What r the equipment i need for african jewel cichlids ?

  • Hey I'm thinkin of buyin 2 african jewel cichlids nd I want to now where I can buy it I looked in petsmart nd the total was 106.95 kinda of guessing the tax nd I'm qonder if I can get the stuff cheaper BTW: the total was the tank for 31.99 heater for 24.99 nd air pump 2000 for 14.99 nd filter for a 20 gallon tank cause I'm buy a 20 gallon tank was 24.99 nd the jewel cichlids is 3.00 to 4.99 each the total was not countin the gravel rock or plants

    For african chiclids they need lots of rocks because they are territorial.. I have a african chiclid tank of my own and i went to a local landscaping place and bought a bunch of cool slait and smooth rocks for them. I got about twenty for $3... I brought them home. boil them for ten minutes . Get some silicone glue from petsmart and make it an art project!

petco has a great special on their 29 gallons. they have the complete set up for $75 with the filter, pump, light, hood, heater & i think a net. walmart's decor is cheaper than the stuff @ the pet stores.

Yeah - that's the sort of money it's gong to cost to set up an aquarium. The cost of the actual fish is usually irrelevant, heck I have a $500 tank that holds "free" fish. Think of the whole project as "setting up an aquarium", not "looking after some fish" and it will make more sense. You can usually save some money by buying 2nd hand, and you dont need an air pump as long as you have a good filter. I suggest you get a light, the fish don't need it, but it makes them better to look at. Although Jewels comes from Africa they are a river species and their care and water conditions are more like Sth American species. Ian
