How to convince your parents to let you have a fantail goldfish?

  • I really want a fantail goldfish, desperately, have been looking into everything from tank sizes (30 gallon, 60 litres?) to cycling a tank, to how big they grow, well, everything! now i cant seem to convince my parents, see, i wanted a bearded dragon to start off with, but wasn't aloud due to live feeding, i have a dog, a family dog, and my mum owns a horse, but i cant horse ride because I have bulging disks, and if i fall off it might very bad, now i love my dog but i've always loved fish, ever since i went to florida 8 years ago. We used to have fish when i was lil and i loved them to death. Im trying to convince my parents to let me have my own fish, a fantail, i know how to care for them, i will just need help with fish tantankingtrate cycle, i will be able to clean the tank out, with the algae cleanervacuumum the gravel, take out 20% of the water to renew and play with them well now like you would a cat or a dobut giveve them decorations, a healthy home, a happy life and i would love them to death. Im not a spoilt brat, but i just absolutelly adore fish, i get pocket money 10 pound a month, and i am wondering any good ways to save up! I help around the house, walk to dog, feed to dog, play with the dog, and baisically i love her to death, i also clean my room, just avreage kid chores. so any way to convince my parents i will take care of a fantail goldfish, without the same thing that happend with the lizzard, i just really want my own pet, a little companion. i am more than happy to spend my pocket money on him. give him food, freeze veg, get him a suitable sized tank! SO PLEASE HELP ME! how can i convince my parents to let me have fish!?! by the way, how many fantail fish can i keep in a 60 litre tank? havent got a tank yet but i have made room, cleaned it, and gave my mum and dad a lecture on fish! =-) =-D

    Sounds like you have done everything you can to show your parents you are responsible enough. What i would do now is save up enough money for your tank and your fish, and all the accessories, it may take a long time but i think if you save up for long enough your parents will see just how much you really want them. You will need to look at the prices of the tank, gravel, ornaments, fish, food, nets and vacuums so you know how much you need to save. But you will always need to keep money spare after you buy them so you will have money to buy extra food, meds if needed, and replacement filter media, if your not prepared to do this your parents may not let you. My daughter wanted a hamster and my son a fish tank, i would not buy them so they saved up all their money, from birthday and xmas money to pocket money, when they had enough i let them buy them for themselves and they have really taken care of them, probably because they had to put all the hard work of saving for them.

60 liters is only about 16 gallons so no goldfish in a tank that small. But you can keep some small tropical fish in it. One fantail goldfish needs 125 liters or 30 gallons. As for convincing your parents to let you have fish...you have to keep telling them that it will be educational...keeping fish is more like a chemistry lesson then anything else. And remind that you take really good care of the dog. And since you are willing to spend your money on the fish is also a good point.

Well I convinced my parents by telling them it would be my responsibility to take care of it and feed it. Also o told them I would clean the tank and put it in my room. Tht did the trick ;) good luck

My best recommendation for you is to check out some books, do your research on what types you are interested in, and be willing to save and spend your own money. Prove to your parents that you are smart enough to learn the best way to take care of these guys and willing to do the maintenance yourself, and put your own money into it. Bar this, dream about your ultimate fish tank and buy it when you move out. Hope this helped..
