How can I tell my betta fish is sick?

How can I tell if my scissor tail betta fish is a boy or girl? ?

  • I have a scissor tail betta fish and I want to give it a name based on gender but I can't find out if it's a boy or girl. And I need non gender based names for now.

    The males are a lot bigger, and prettier. Females to not have the large top fins, and big tail. The females are ugly in color and have small fins and tail. You most likely have a male, no one really likes the females lol

It's properly called a doubletail. Doubletail males have much larger fins than females. When they flare, their gill beard is large and extends all the way around their head. On females, the gill beard is much smaller and usually barely visible under the chin.
