What are the prettiest African Cichlids?

What kind of fish can I buy with African Cichlids?

  • To make a long story short.I have a 60 gallon tank set up which I originally used for my African Cichlids, a catfish and a pleco. Currently only 2 of the cichlids and the pleco remain alive. The cichlids arent very big (roughly 4 inches each). One is somewhat aggressive and the other not so much. I would like to start to shift to some species of fish that are less aggressive than cichlids but not overly difficult to maintain. My question is, with the size tank I have and being that I only have 2 cichlids in the tank can I start to add less aggressive fish into the tank? If so, how many? What kinds of fish, and any other recommendations you may have related to this. Thanks

  • Answer:

    Some Central American cichlids also come from similar water conditions. The "Tuxedo Cichlid," Herichthys bartoni, is one of my favorites. Any other cichlids, though, would be in territorial competition with the Africans.
