How to fish with artificial worms?

Does my fish have worms and how do I get rid of them?

  • I just got a new fish from Walmart. I was watching it because I wanted to see it's babies be born. It pooped and I think it was a really big worm. It stayed there for hours and when I looked closely at it with a magnifying glass there were a bunch of really tiny things swarming around the end of it. Now they are all over the tank. There are white puffy spots on some of the other fish but this fish shows no signs of any diseases. What should I do to fix this? Will the babies be infected too? Can these worms be passed on to humans?

  • Answer:

Looks like you found a fish who ate a fish that had ICH. It is an easy problem to fix. Do you have any cory catfish in the tank? This cure is not good for them and a few other fish, but perfectly safe for the majority of fish. First slow over a day, raise your heater's temperature to 80 degrees. That will shorten the life of the organism. Add a tablespoon of aquarium salt to every 5 gallons of water in your tank.
