  • Answer:

larger eels will eat small ones sometimes, you won't know till it happens, but they should be fine if they're similar in size and have tons of hiding places. Eels usually don't fight if there's multiple caves so they don't have to be too close to one another if they don't want to be. they don't much care the type of cave material, just that there's lots to choose from.

The ribbon eel is a difficult eel to keep. They are super sensitive. Acclimate nice and slow. If you have had one before, you know what I am talking about. I had a blue ribbon for a few years. Be sure the other eel is well fed the day before. The snowflake isn't a super aggressive eel, so you have a good chance. Be sure to add the new eel in an area away from the other eel. Be sure you have a tight lid with no gaps. These eel are thinner than other eel and more likely to end up on your floor. If he does end up on the floor and even seems dead, put him in a bucket of saltwater rather than immediately dispose..they are known to "come back"! No need to isolate, but you can. Best is to get a quarantine tank and put it up against the main tank where they can see each other. Acclimating in the bag in the tank allows for some protective face time too. The eel likes to hid, so some nice caves is a good thing. You can use pipe, but rocks are just fine. If you have trouble getting him to eat, shrimp and fiddler crabs are a great live meal.
