Is my freshwater angelfish is sick?

How many Neon Tetras and Freshwater AngelFish can I safely put in a 10 gal. tank?

  • Hi! I have a 10 gallon tank that is cleaned, correct pH, and has a tropical fish heater along with a thermometer. Perfect for Tetras and Angelfish. I am not a first time tetra owner and my mom has had angelfish before so we are not new at this. I just want to be safe about this, my question is: "Can I safely put five Neon Tetras and two 1-inch Freshwater Angelfish in a 10 gal. tank?" Thanks so much to people who answer this :D

  • Answer:

10 gal is NOT perfect for Angelfish, they grow to about 6" long and tall, plus fins. At that size they can (and do) eat neons for breakfast. What will happen is the angels will grow to about 3" long, kill the neons, then get stunted and die. Stick to the Neons and maybe some small cory catfish and a dwarf gourami? Make sure you cycle the tank, neons are quite sensitive to water conditons. Although your tank is clean and has fresh water it has no nitrogen cycle yet. Add to many fish, ammonia builds up in the water and your fish die after about a week. Ian

Hi, I know not a lot of people would agree with me, but I would say you could put 5 neon tetras and maybe 1 freshwater angel in a 10 gallon. Neon tetras are tiny and don't need a lot of room. You can easily put 20+ neon tetras in a 10 gal tank. Angels however require a bit more room. I'd upgrade to maybe a 20 or 30 gal. size tank. You could easily have 2 angelfish and as many neon tetras as you want that way. But if your heart is set on it, do it in the 10 gallon, I would.

well those angel fish will grow, also that might work, but don't angels need a tall tank?? and you can't just have fish in a tank w/ a heater, and filter. thats boring..and fish think it is too SPICE IT UP with plants and caves!! =] (i love leafy plants so heres my favorites, cryptocorne and melon swords) with baby dwarf tears as a carpet plant (baby dwarf tears hardly show up in the petstores so go to aquabid ok?)

10 gallon tanks are not big enough for angel fish they need alot of space and do grow large also many of them regard neons as food so not a good choice to put together, though many people do keep them together if they grow up together then not all angels will hunt and eat them

When your angel grows a bit it will eat the neons.
