Can I put clams in my goldfish tank?

How do I put a goldfish in a new tank? PLEASE READ WHOLE DESCRIPTION!I NEED HELP FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

  • I have this beautiful goldfish who has spent there whole life(1 year) in a 2.5 gallon tank with an air filter and live plants to keep him healthy. The other day I was running late to work and I accidentally hit it with a tv remote while trying to put it down(I was rushing). So I got home at night and a significant amount of water was missing from the tank and i noticed a crack. I patched it up with tape because it was small. It's still leaking. IMPORTANT- I have this established 20 gallon tank with 5 current goldfish already in there. I want to put him in there but I am afraid the change will kill him or he will get a bad fungus again because he has been through everything from fungus and tumors that I removed and he is very sensitives to changes even when I change his water once a week for 2 days he will just sit there. So how do I complete this process of transportation. ADDITIONAL INFO- He is about 2 inches long and was getting big for his tank anyways and the fish in the 20 gallon range from 1-2 inches

  • Answer:

don't freak out!!! follow these steps, I recently went through a situation just like this -Put him in a bag of water and tie the top -Lower that bag into the new water environment he will be moved to (to get him transitioned to the new temperature and he won't go into shock) -slowly but surely pour a little of the "new environment" water into his baggy (to get him adjusted to the new water) and do this about every 2 minutes till his baggy is a good 50/50 old/new water -when you've done this, open the baggy and keep it open, let him swim out on his own and then you're good to go!!! Good luck!!!!!!

For now you should put him in the 20 gallon tank (make sure you acclimate him slowly by floating him and putting some water in the bag), but he and the other fish could get sick from being in that tank long term, so it wouldn't be surprising if he's had issues before. 2.5 gallons is way to small for any fish, even a betta needs 5 gallons. For 5 goldfish you are looking at a minimum of 75 gallons if they are fancy, and if they are comets they will need probably at least 200 gallons. Goldfish are very messy and grow very large, their growth is probably already stunted and is shortening their lifespan. The water quality is difficult to maintain for a big fish in a tiny tank which is what made him sick before. You need to upgrade your fish's home as soon as you can or rehome them.

Ok i would never ever move my fish unless it was an absolute emergency. You should probably get a slightly bigger tank,if youre going to add fish. A sensitive fish that bad has a high rate to pass on, but you can always, get the other fish used to his tank water too!!!:#0

hes gonna die

You might want to get him another tank like the one he has now (Only a little bigger) if you want it to be the same. Especially if he's that sensitive! My fish used to be... Otherwise, I think the only thing you can do is move him in a plastic bag and let it sit so that the water temperature matches... Then, put him in, and hope for the best! Good luck :)

If you move him over you'll need to adjust him slowly to the water of the second tank. Put him in a bucket of his original tank water and slowly add a cup of the new tank water every 5 minutes or so to try and adjust him slowly before you put him in the other tank. Temperature shock could also occur if there is much difference in temperature between the two tanks. If you have a water test kit, check the parameters of each tank to make sure they're not too different (ph, ammonium, nitrates etc). Whatever you do you'll need to do it very gradually if he is sensitive to changes. Maybe you coul try topping up his existing tank with water from your other tank to try and acclimatize him to the other tank water. Do a water change in the larger tank to make sure it's quite clean before you try to move the original fish.

just put him in a bag with his own water tie it up with air in it and sit it in the other tank for ten minutes then release
