Bird eggs!!!? Help me please?

  • Last night my grandma called me and said she found two small robin eggs laying close to the curb, no where by a tree. She took them in for the night and wrapped them in a wash cloth and layed them on a fabric and set them in an easter basket. I just now took them to my house. I have them kept in the basket still, but this time I put a desk lamp on, facing down heating them. I just learned almost everything about how to care for baby birds in school, so I want to try to raise them on my own but there are some things I still need to know. Do you think they are still living? Also, is there any certain temperature they have to be at? Let me know everything you know about hatching and raising baby birds so I can try to keep them alive! Thank you!

    depending on if the eggs has been incubated prior to being found and how long they have been without incubation, they may be dead already. Agree with using a really bright light source to see if you can see veins or movements of the embryo inside - if there are veins and movement of the embryo, then they are still alive. The temperature is usually in the 90s F, but sometimes the temperature needs to be adjusted as the egg matures. Humidity is also very important in addition to the turning. If you are going to school, how are you planning to turn the eggs enough? Incubation wildbird eggs can be every difficult without an incubator. Handfeeding baby birds are even harder even if you were to succeed in hatching them - they need to be fed almost every 1-2 hours at first. therefore, highly suggest you take them to a wildlife rescue group if they are alive still.

as long as no one has touched them it means there still alive and if someone did touch the egg sorry but chance r they have passed and u should buy an incubator for the babies one that turns b/c baby birds need to be turned over once in a while hope they live and thats all i know

You put them in an Easter basket? That's kinda sick. Don't accidentally eat them, now!

You're Grandma is a good person for bringing those eggs in. :) Well I'm not sure the temperature the light has to be on, but I know you how you can tell if they are still living or not. They are these small flashlights called candle lights. When you shine them on the egg if you see lines going across the inside, which are veins, then the egg, or chick, is still alive. If not, then sadly it's dead. It would need to be really dark. And after you candle light the eggs, place them in an incubator. It's the best way to hatch an egg if you don't have the mother to sit on them. Don't keep them in the easter basket. They're better off in an incubator. It does all the work needed to hatch the eggs, besides the fact that you would have to turn the eggs every few days so each side is warmed. And try not to pick up the eggs with your bare hands. Oil from your skin will get into the egg and it might affect the birth of the chick.
