When will my budgie/parakeet lay an egg?

How many days is safe for lovebrid to lay an egg?

• My lovebird seemed to be eating less this week so we brought her to the vet. They told us Saturday that the bird has a well formed and well calcified egg in her and she should lay it Saturday night or Sunday morning at the latest. If nto to go to a vet. However it is now Sunday afternoon and it is still there, and all vets are closed. We don't know how long the egg has been there. We didn't know it was there till the vet checked her. My question is how long is safe to wait and what bad signs if any should we look for. The nearest emergency clinic is almost 2 hrs from us. We will go if needed but worry the drive may be worse than giving her time to lay it. In the past she has laid about 175 eggs over 3 years and has been on loopron for 1.5 yrs to stop her form laying. She did lay one about 3 month ago, but that was the only one in 1.5 yrs and was unexpected. She is eating, small amounts and is going to the bathroom regulalry, in small amounts. Is it safe to give her another 24 hrs before driving her to emergency?

  A vet can not tell you that there is an egg in your bird ready to be laid unless it is egg bound,if your bird is egg bound then it will be sitting at the bottom of the cage puffed up. The best thing for you to do is find another vet as your present ones does not seem to be an avian vet. Give your bird some small pieces of green veg such as Broccoli or Kale , this will help to pass any egg.
