Snapping turtle and catfish?

  • i got a black devil catfish, he is around 12" long and i was wondering how he will act with my turtle? i have a rescued baby snapping turtle, he is around 2.5-3" shell length. and he eatrs red rosies, and stays inside his plant and on his rock near the top. the catfish stays near the bottom and doesnt seem to do anything but poop. the turtle and catfish seem to stay away from each other but once in a while the turtle will swim over to the fish and the fish swims away, but other than that they stay away and on different levels. the turtle is fairly aggressive, and he is bigger than the catfish's mouth. so do you think they will bother each other. i have people saying they can be fine, and people saying the catfish will **** up the turtle. i love my turtle, ive had him for almost 4 months and we are cool together. so will they bother each other.

  • Answer:

It is likely that the turtle will be fine. However, it will grow a lot faster than the catfish will and, one of these days, you will find a chunk missing from the fish's fin. I would start looking around for another tank.

I talked to tons of people about the same thing when i had my turtles. I must tell you that the snapping turtle will eat the fish or at least try to and injure it eventually. At first it may appear to be fine, but after awhile the turtle will get used to it and go after it.
