Are Canister Filters Too much filter for my tank?

• Well i only have a 15 gal tank that hold 4 RES and the filter that i have only filters up to 15 gal. i figured that that wouldn't be enough. Im planning on to use this tank for like 1 more year or maybe more so i was wondering if a canister filter is too much filter for a 15 gal size tank. Also if anyone has a canister filter, can you tell me which brand is the best?. Also for canister filters, do we leave them on everyday all night 24/7? I heard somewhere that they might overheat. Another question for canister filters is when you buy it, does it already have all the blocks and stuff for filtration like the thing that filters out the waste.(Its not very clearly explained but i meant the replacable waste block thing that drains the waste.For an example, in power filters, you can replace the carbon filter packages o-o) Thanks

  You are aware that a 15 gallon tank is not even remotely big enough for those turtles no matter how small they are right? 10 gallons per inch of carapace(shell). With 4 turtles they are getting roughly 3 gallons each of space! And when they get grown they will range between 7-13 inches and if all are female who reach 12-13 inches that would be over a 500 gallon tank needed... You should have 2-3x (in your case more) filtration than your tank size. Brands like Rena Filstar, Eheim, Fluval are all great brands. It should be on at all times other than cleaning. SOme have the filtration media some you need to buy your choice of media.
