Yes, what kind of tank do you have? Also, what kind of bedding? Is it sand or coconut fiber where he can bury down? He may be in desperate need of a molt and he does have to have marine grade saltwater and good bedding so he can bury down under to molt. If not, he may be trying to do a surface molt and that is vey stressful on a crab. Actually, if he is having problems, spraying him could stress him out even more. Make sure he has access to water, salt and fresh, good food, maybe even some organic, natural honey. Honey has good healing qualities. And then try to be hands off as much as possible. If you have other crabs, try to isolate him from them. A good way is to cut off the bottom of a clean two liter bottle and put it over him pushing it down all the way to the bottom. Then make sure the top is off so he has access to fresh air. Try to check out landhermitcrabs.com...it is a wonderful forum full of any kind of info you could need for hermit crabs and lots of wonderful people who will answer any questions. Good luck!!

It's okay to have a lamp on them but if the lamp isn't one that is one that has the bulb for UVA and UVB lighting you're wasting your time because it has not effect on him. Spray the cage down with water, they love that and more often than not they will come out for that. Use a spray bottle for this that has a nice mist, just simply dunking him is risky and an unpleasant surprise for him. One thing you need to know that most people don't is that he HAS to have a salt water bath. You can by this online or at some pet stores. It's a salt water conditioner. Without this, he can't molt propery. Hermit crabs can live up to 20 years at least but that's only if you provide them with a salt water bath--NO you cannot use table salt or your edible sea salt for this process because all the minerals he needs have been removed. Also, he'd in a tank right?? Not in some wired cage?
Ditto everything Debbie said. In addition, if your tank is less than 30gallons, the lamp is probably just sucking the humidity out and making it hard for him to breathe. It's also keeping it bright, and since hermies are nocturnal, at the very least that will keep him from moving around as much. You need to make sure the temp is in the high 70s and the humidity is around 80% in the tank, and then just keep it as dark and quiet as possible. Don't handle him or mist him, as this will just add to his stress. Come visit landhermitcrabs.com.
