Spending My Birthday Money On The Right Type of Chameleon For me...?
-
Okay, so......I turned 13 about a week ago and i got about 2 or 3 hundred dollars from my friends and family for my birthday. So for the past week I've been thinking about what i wanted for my birthday and finally, i have decided. I want a Chameleon. And yes i know they should not be held a lot and thier not reccomended for begginner reptile owners. This will be my first reptile. But i dont really care about all of that stuff. Im just focused on getting a Chameleon that is known to be nice and yes i know a Chameleons nicenest can not be determinded fully because they all wont act the same. like i could get 2 jacksons Chameleons and one could be extremely nice but the other one could be extremely mean. But guys im DEFINETELY NOT GOING TO GET A VIELD CHAMELEON! im thinking of either getting a Samabava Chameleon or a Jacksons Chameleon. What do you guys think i should get?

Answer:
I don't think you should get a chameleon, there are many reptiles that are not chameleons that are cool. Please don't take offense when I say your not ready because I don't think you understand how big of a commitment it is. Do you know how to deal with a gravid female? Majority of female cham die after they lay eggs because it is such a risky time. Since this is your first reptile you don't have any idea on how much work a reptile actually takes especially a chameleon. These animal are the most sensitive and there is a reason why they are expert pets and I can tell your already misconducted. First off if you handle you cham every single day it won't be mean, if you get it from a pet store I guarantee it will be mean so you have to order from a breeder if your going to be serious. You also do not have enough funds unless you can find a Cham for under 50$ which I can say good luck the cheapest I have seen for a male cham from a trust able breeder is 350$. How will you afford a cage? or a mister? Don't expect your parents to do it I dropped 700$ on the spot to have a complete set up and a chameleon. I don't think your understand to commitment you are getting your self into and getting two is a stupid idea. You can't keep them in the same cage and they will never be friends. Don't make a irresponsible mistake and end up having a 'stupid' pet. You have no idea how many people do this and realize that it was a mistake. The best advice for you is pick a different pet.

If you don't care that your animal needs this or can't do that and that chameleons need someone experienced to take care of them, then you are hurting the animal, any animal is a big responsibility so please get something easier so you can learn, join a chat group and do lots of research.
