Is my corn snake to skinny or it this normal?

I just got a corn snake about a week ago and I can feel his spine when I am holding him he is a little over 4ft long and around 3 yrs old the guy told me to feed him a hopper rat every two weeks but is it normal to be able to feel the back bone if not would it hurt if I fed him once a week till he gained a little weight? It is a male

If you are feeding him once a week alternate between rats and larger mice. Too many rats is bad for them as they are very fatty but mice aren't. I do recommend feeding once a week though.
