-
I have a corn snake who i bought recently hes about 3 years old. there are a few questions 1. im having trouble handling him how can i handle him, im really jumpy and i know thats a huge factor when handling a snake. 2. should i be feeding him in the same tank? ive heard u can and ive heard you can't i to be able to handle him but im struggling. and again if he shouldn't be how am i going to get him inside a box? 3.can he be aggressive? he "sneezes" sometimes either by himself or when i approach him he never "bites" but he has once run into the cage aggressively can anyone help?

Answer:
Corn sakes in general are the most docile of all snakes in my opinion. You should have no prob. handling it just stay calm and don't reach towards its head when you pick it up. I always feed my sakes in a different box, cooler, bucket, not in its regular home, this cuts down on aggression they never associate feeding with there container this way. Also feed dead feed items if your snake is eating live mice now you can easily switch it over start by killing the mouse just before you introduce it to the snake, after a few times increase the time between when you kill the mouse and give it to the snake. When your snake will take a mouse that is dead and totally cold you will be able to buy frozen mice and thaw them for it ( make sure the mice are totally thawed and room temp before feeding). One more thing always wash your hands after handling mice before you attempt to pick up your snake.

1. When you handle him you want to be calm, there is no reason to be jumpy. You will get used to it anyways. you don't have to just hold him in your hands you can let him go around your shoulders and such. It helps to get you used to him that way. 2. I don't feed my snakes in their cage anymore. No i have never had trouble with them thinking my hand is food, but my boa got a piece of bedding stuck in her mouth, and she wouldn't eat for 3 weeks and i thought she was sick so i took her to the vet and it was just a piece of bedding stuck in her mouth. so if you have paper towels as bedding, then i would say its fine. just remember to use tongs when you feed it or you'lll get bitten. Also the whole box thing has never worked for my snakes. it stresses them out rather than making them feel safe and alone. I lay paper towels on my desk and that's the only way they will eat now which is fine. i hope you feed them frozen thawed, and not live. 3. He is most likely just stressed since you recently got him and he is in a new environment. And yea he will definitely be aggressive if you don't hold him that often. once a day is good. but if you don't hold him he wont trust you and will be aggressive toward you. Give him some time to get used to you.
