My chameleon is doing really bad?

First time chameleon owner needing tips....?

  • My boyfriend and I have decided that after 2 years of wanting a chameleon that we are going to research it thoroughly and hopefully get one! We have been to a reptile specialist that quoted us £250 for the vivarium/terrarium, heater, lights and 1 Chameleon unfortunately this guy lives in Cambridgeshire and I live in North Wales (My mum lives in cambridgeshire and I was visiting her) I asked him some questions and Bought a chameleon care book from him BUT now i would like some more info from Chameleon owners for example What are the joys of owning a chameleon? What is the cost of keeping one like how much is the upkeep per week/month? and any other info you may like to add would be greatly appreciated!! Also what happens if it gets stressed out? and what are the signs? Thanks!

  • Answer:

get more books and read them cover to cover. the books should tell you signs of stress and how to keep the animal alive. they need a screen cage for air flow, but also need high humidity. misting twice a day with water, everyday. crickets and vitamin powder don't cost a ton of money. UV lights and electricity will cost you. lights need replaced every year to keep the level of UV the same. find a reptile vet in your area before you get the animal, just in case!! vet visits cost the most!!

Also make sure that you look up the information for the species of cham that you want/ got. You don't want info for a Jackson's when you have a panther...
