What's a good kind of snake to get as a pet?
-
I'm looking for something relatively small (less than 3 feet) that will not bite or has to be REALLY pissed off to bite, and is not venomous. I have a northern brown snake, but my friend wants a snake like it but you can't get them in stores and they are pretty rare.

I would go for a corn snake. They are usually pretty laid back are easy to care for and come in many morphs so she will have a lot to choose from. If you scroll down this page you can see some of the diff morphs and also there is a care sheet on here too http://www.allaboutcornsnakes.com/corn_snakes.html They don't get huge and generally tolerate handling Very well. Also just because poster above clearly does not think much of them does not mean your friend will think the same. I found my corn to be very active and friendly and provided plenty entertainment watching him.

I found Ball pythons are great they can get over 3 ft but not by much and some don't i have 2 that are just at 3 ft long, they are very docile and not known for biting, Mine have never bitten, they only curl up when scared Normaly they will not bite unless u feed it wrong being u are feeding a dead mouse with your hand and the mouses body temp is lower then ur own they u may get bitten other then that they don't bite. other people may suggest is a cornsnake but they can get quite long and in my experience are more likely to bite then ball pythons. but with the right handling and feeding techniques can make wonderful pets. A snake that doesn't get to 3ft is the kanya Sand boa it gets to 2 feet but i have read they are known to bite.
these guys arent the smartest lol milk snake n corn snakes get well over 3ft and so does a ball python unfortunetly=/ if she wants a cool looking snake thats some what cheap and small but has a big name to it would be a Rosy Boa there are numerous colors and in Arizona there sold at pet co http://www.lazoo.org/animals/reptiles/rosyboa/index.html and is that color have fun collecting:)
A hognose is great. If they do get real angry, they play dead. If they try to bite you it's more of a headbut because they never open their mouth. They do have a rear-fang venom thing going on, but I have never once heard of anyone getting bitten by one. If it did happen then the syptoms would be swelling and itching of the bite site.
corn and milk snakes if you want small boring snakes that can have some decent color patterns
Corn snakes are nice beginner pets but will bite if they're frightened or expect food. I recently got some hognose babies and they're fantastic. They WILL NOT bite unless you smell like food. They are neither venomous nor constrictors and grow to be about 18-26 inches. I haven't seen any in pet shops but I got mine at a reptile show. The only thing they do that scares some people is when they're scared, they flatten their head like a cobra, pick their head up off the ground, hiss really loud and fake-strike at whatever is scaring them. Their fake-strike is literally just them lunging at you with their mouths closed. If they get scared enough they also play dead by rolling over on their backs, pooping and throwing up, and rolling in that so they smell bad. That's only if they are VERY scared!! They're really cute and are pretty chill once they realize you aren't a threat to them.
I own a milk snake. They are great, but not that great when you want a handling snake. If you want a calm cuddly snake then go with the Royal Python
