How much will my dachshund weigh as an adult if he weighs 10.8 pounds at 5 months?

• How much will my dachshund weigh as an adult if he weighs 10.8 pounds at 5 months? Hello, I bought a dachshund from a breeder who said that he was a mini dachshund. However, he is only 5 months old, and he already weighs 10.8 pounds. The breeder said that his father weighed 9 pounds and his mother weighed 11 pounds. I also asked the breeder about how much she things that he will weigh since he is so big now, and she said that he should not get too much bigger, since dachshunds usually do most of their growing the first few months. However, the vet thinks that he is going to double his size and be 20 pounds as an adult. If he gets 20 pounds, he will definitely not be a mini dachshund but rather a standard. Can someone tell me by their experience how much he will weigh as an adult with him being 10.8 pounds at 5 months now? Hopefully, someone can help me out with my question in regards to his weight as as adult. Thanks for your help in advance.

  No one can tell you for sure what your dog will weigh, as puppies all grow and develop at different rates. My Crested was just under 10 pds at 5 months.. as an adult, he weighs 15/16 pds.. your vet took a fair guess at around 20 pds... he may or may not get quite that large, but he's certainly going to be larger than 11 pounds. Its very possible that there were larger dogs in the pedigree.. and your puppy got the throwback genetics for the larger size. Just because parents are small does not mean the puppy will be small. A reputable breeder would have a fair guess at what to expect from their pups.. based on knowledge of the pedigree, and experience with previous litters. Doesnt sound like your breeder knows what she's really talking about.
