Are there and home remedies the kill flea eggs?
-
My 1.5 year old Basset Hound has fleas. I have used 'Vet's Best home and pet spray' to kill all the adult fleas, but I need to kill all the eggs/larvae. He is severely allergic to traditional flea treatments, even simple flea collars cause hair loss and severe blistering and open wounds. That's why I can only use normal soaps/cleaners or anything natural. Is there any kind of home concoction or store bought soaps that will kill the EGGS in the carpet/furniture and on him? I feel so bad. I keep killing off the adults but with all the eggs they come back in a matter of a day or even less. I only recently got him and he came with fleas. This whole month has been one unending battle. Any suggestions are much appreciated. But please no snide/mean remarks. Its not my fault he's infested, and he is by no means neglected. He's actually quite spoiled. I just don't know how to deal with his allergies and the fleas. And I'm just waiting on my next paycheck to take him to the vet to get some kind of prescription anti allergen flea treatment, if there IS such a thing.... Thank you

Answer:
1) Put some vinegar in a spray bottle and thoroughly spray your carpets and furniture. Let it sit for a bit and then vacuum. Listerine works too. I did both when we brought our poor flea-ridden baby home after finding him on the side of the road five years ago. 2) Gather some Eucalyptus leaves, boil them in a pot of water. The smell apparently helps to kill any remaining live fleas. You can also use small bunches of Eucalyptus leaves. Tie them up with a nice string or something to make them look decorative, keep them high up where your dog can't get them, and leave them lying there. That will also drive away spiders. 3) Look up something called Tenacious Earth. It is entirely non-toxic. You can put it all over the floor, counter, furniture, even in your dog's food. It drives away and/or kills ALL insects and is in no way harmful to animals or people. It's everywhere in my house :)

I use wool mix it's got eucalyptus in it. Many people say not to use it but I have never had a problem with it. You find it in the clothes detergent section at the supermarket it's for washing woolen clothes. I wash my big dogs with it and there bedding. The fleas die instantly and it smells good. You can also water the grass with it as it doesn't kill the grass

just use the same remedy for the adults once or twice a week for three weeks. that's how long it takes for all eggs to hatch and hopefully die. also go through the hair with a fine toothed comb each time. may be overwhelming but persevere and you shall be rewarded

You have tried the spot on flea stuff like Frontline and Advantix? Not surprised that a flea collar was a problem. As far as I know, the way to get the eggs is to vacuum every day and throw the bag away every day, until done with fleas. What about a flea bomb? Not sure if that kills eggs, though. There is a pill sold at vets, Comfortis I think, that you could look into for him.

I hope you rinsed the soap off the dog; that alone can cause terrible itchiness. There are no home remedies that can kill flea eggs. You can use food grade diatomaceous earth in your home. It is non-toxic: it is even actually edible. :) But at the microscopic level, the individual particles are covered with razor-sharp spikes and blades. When they come in contact with an insect, any insect, larva or adult, it snags on their shell and cuts it open so the bug bleeds to death. It's a purely mechanical method, no insect can become immune to it. The particles are primarily calcium, but not in a very bio-available form: some cattle farmers feed it to their cattle so that the particles are in the manure: this limits the infestation of flies in their barns.

Try Advocate spot on as I have a dog that reacts to the others but has NO issues with advocate & it dose all stages of fleas, ear mites, skin mites, worms all in 1 spot on so doesn't even work out all that costly when you add up what it cost to buy each parasite treatment individually. If that's no good try putting sallow dishes of warm water around of a night & the fleas will jump in it & drown, thoroughly vacuum your whole house & let off a flea bomb under the house. Wash the dog in a wool wash detergent also not sure how effective it is but some people reckon it works so may be worth a go in your situation. Wash all the dogs bedding & whilst you get on top of it have 2 sets of bedding & put it though a hot wash every day. I also find dogs with allergies do better on very plain no additive or preservatives type diets & have a had good results with salt bush & chia added to their diets to boost their immune systems in general. Also add a tiny amount of garlic to your dogs feed & work it up to 1 teaspoon daily as it's a natural wormer but is toxic in large doses so don't go over the teaspoon a day. all my dogs are on it & never had any side affects.
